Peron is a coastal suburb located within the City of Rockingham, south-west of Perth in Western Australia. It occupies a peninsula that juts into the Indian Ocean, bounded by the waters of Cockburn Sound to the east and the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park to the west and south. The suburb primarily consists of natural reserves and coastline, and is situated approximately 50 kilometres south of the Perth central business district, making it accessible yet set apart from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Demographically, Peron has a very limited residential population, with most of the land designated for conservation, recreation, and public use. There are few, if any, private homes in the suburb, as much of the area is covered by the Lake Richmond wetlands, parklands, and coastal reserves. The absence of large residential precincts gives Peron a unique character within the Rockingham region, with the nearby suburbs of Shoalwater and Rockingham providing the majority of residential housing and community facilities for locals and visitors alike.

Commercial properties in Peron are also minimal. The suburb supports a handful of recreational and tourism-focused amenities, including cafes, kiosks, and facilities associated with the popular Point Peron area and the nearby Cape Peron. These support the significant number of day-trippers and tourists who come for water sports, beach activities, and nature walks. While Peron itself does not have a dedicated shopping or business district, its proximity to Rockingham means residents and visitors benefit from the broader commercial infrastructure in the area, including retail, dining, and essential services.
